CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national-level exam conducted by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) in India. It is required for candidates who wish to become teachers in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), Central Tibetan Schools, and other schools that accept CTET scores.

Key Points About CTET

1. Purpose

CTET is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions at:

  • Primary Level (Classes 1 to 5) — Paper I

  • Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8) — Paper II

You can appear for either one paper or both.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Paper I (Class 1–5):

  • Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed
    OR

  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
    (and similar accepted combinations)

Paper II (Class 6–8):

  • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed
    OR

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks + B.Ed
    (and similar accepted combinations)

3. Exam Pattern

Both papers include 150 MCQs with no negative marking.

Paper: Paper I & Paper II

Subjects:

Paper I: Child Development, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, EVS.

Paper II: Child Development, Language I, Language II, Mathematics & Science or Social Studies

Total Marks: Paper I: 150 and Paper II: 150

Duration: Paper I: 2.5 hours, Paper II: 2.5 hours

4. Validity of CTET Certificate

  • Lifetime validity (as per the latest rules).

5. Passing Marks

  • General: 60% (90 out of 150)

  • OBC/SC/ST: Relaxation is provided as per rules.

6. How CTET Helps

  • Required for teaching jobs in central government schools.
